Trying to loosen up

In an effort to 'loosen up' my sketching, I gave myself the task to sketch what was only in front of me as I ate my dinner at The Cracker Barrel. The wait staff there was very friendly and would have left me to my pencil and eraser all night --! But since it is the holiday season, they were serving very quickly - so I had about 20 minutes in total to get the sketching done. When I got home for the weekend, I added the watercolors. I'm adding this to the EDM # 21 'Draw Something Old' as EVERYTHING in this restaurant has some age on it. While the perspective of the fireplace is kerwokety (it is rectangular and NOT triangular!), I suprised myself that the deerhead is recognizable (at least to me!). I want to do more of these 'fast sketches' to lossen up and get rid of my hang-up on perfection ... I have a ways to go!

It's lively! Triangular fireplace or not, this has an energy that more studied drawings don't. Bravo!

You captured a whole scene with lots of detail in 20 minutes - bravo! And the fireplace is believable, it does have depth.

Great work, My loose sketches tend to look a little bit more like scribble?? You've done well. Great colour too. The picture is very cosy.

Lin you captured the warmth and cosiness of the restaurant perfectly. Love the deers head. I think that looks great. Well done. I think you achieved what you set out to do with this sketch. It looks great. :o)

Drawing from memory is a very good exercise, and I can see that you had a lot of fun with it!

Cracker Barrel -- what a GREAT idea! Tons of stuff in there and it is generally a cozy kind of place. This is great!

Kerwokety...now that's a good word, and one that I'm afraid applies to much of my stuff more than it does yours. Tight is sooooo hard to let go, I feel so much safer and more secure when I put "tight" into my work; and it shows. lol
