Red Geraniums

I CANNOT see terra cotta pots of red geraniums without thinking of Sicily! I found a photo of these and was instantly transported back there -- to warm days, bright sunshine, hills of wildflowers, terraces of geraniums, cafes and expressos, groves of olives and grapes ... I am homesick to return!

And just about now they'd be in full bloom, too. Geraniums must be the favourite flower of Italians, you see them everywhere! I guess maybe (I'm guessingher...) it's because the coulours so closely resemble the colours of the Itaian flag.. the green, white and red. What do you think?

Gorgeous gorgeous. Your love for these flowers and Italy are shining through this painting. You make me want to visit there. Wonderful job!

I think of Switzerland when I see red geraniums and I guess parts of France too, though when I think of France, I think of the brilliant climbing roses that seem to grow out of hard hot dry earth to scramble and bloom gloriously over old weathered brick. I took lots of photos...I guess I should dig some out and try to draw them! Thanks for the lovely run down memory lane this morning. :o)

Lovely painting and the writing made me homesick for Italy too and I've never even been there. Very evocative. The only red geraniums I get to see grow in huge clumps along the freeway soundwall near my house.

I love the variation of browns on the pot and greens in the leaves - you're doing lots of lovely work.

How lovely! I have never been to Italy, but it calls to me.

This is beautiful, Lin. Not only the physical picture you have painted but the mental picture, as well.

Pots of red geraniums are so cheerful, aren't they? I love this watercolour. I particularly like the way you've captured the teracotta pot.

I think of my grandmother who used to have loads of them. But seeing your painting, yes, they look so Italian with the red and green. Fab illustration!

These are wonderful, Lin---I HOPE you'll be able to go back to Sicily very soon, especially now that you've found out more about your family there!!
