My Sis, Pat

In keeping with my weekly portrait attempts, I sketched my other sister, Pat. From the nose up, this is her with her biking helmet on .... but after dozens of erasures for her mouth, I just can't get it right. It's close -- but doesn't sing 'PAT!'

Still, I'm hoping with time, will eventually be .. HER!

Smiles/mouths are the VERY HARD to get right, for me anyway. That you were brave enough to show teeth in the portrait is outstanding! If you keep pluggin' away you are gonna learn to do them, look how much progress you have made!!!

Maybe it doesn't look like your sister, but it's a very believable and well-drawn picture of a person, so that's good. And she looks like an interesting, nice and fun person too. It's fun seeing her picture get closer and closer each week.

Nice job, Lin! How cool, with the biking helmet...

Mouths are hard, but teeth are HARDER...usually better just to suggest them than to try to draw them in much...

I don't know Pat, but It looks real, the eyes are very sparkly and they smile enough on their own so not to be too worried about a smiling mouth!! You are getting gooder;O)

Lin the improvement you are showing in your portraits is tremendous!! It's those little touches that bring it to life and they are all here. Her nose is so realistic and the shape of the face and eyes has real personality. I have to agree, mouths are really difficult especially when just using lines. I think that's why I shade so much - it covers a multitude of sins :)! It's wonderful, your best yet!
