Pink Geraniums

pink geraniums

These four pots of pink gernaiums are sitting on one of the 142 steps of the Monumental Scala La Scala Infiorata in Caltagirone, Sicily. The ceramic tiles decorate all of the risers up this fantastic staircase in the middle of the city. Citizens create flower montages with the flowerpots and on July 24 and 25 in honor of the city's patron, St. James, lights are added and the scene created is symbolic of the saint.

When we visited in May last year, only scatterings of flowerpots decorated the staircase, but the scene was still magnificent.

(Another container for Kate's Alumni challenge.)

Love this, Lin! Great job on the tiles and the stairs! Pots are excellent too, I just fell in love with the tiles! Wonderful story to go along, also.

This is really neat. (Well, I guess literally as well as me just using slang from when I was a kid). I'm intrigued by the Kate Alumni challenges. Is Kate leading you? Is it a Yahoo group of former on-line students? Is she looking at your work and commenting? How cool!

How nice that you have these photos to go
back to. I've always loved the yellow and
blue of the ceramics from that region --
or anywhere actually -- great color
combination. You did a great job of capturing those little details.

Is it just me or are the word verifications getting harder and harder to figure out???
