Loose Lilacs

Loose Lilacs

(Photo reference -- our lilacs are not yet in bloom -- in fact, the 4 days of freezing weather has burned so many of our flowers - the azaleas especially, strawberry and blueberry blossoms, peaches -- our farmers really took a hit with this late winter weather.)

I like your loose lilacs a lot -- imagine trying to paint every one of those tiny bud things in detail (whew!). I doubt my little bush will bloom; so much lost all across the country with this late spring storm -- so sad and costly.

Nice lilacs! I need to do some loose painting. I tend to get caught up in every little detail.

Our lilac had just started to bloom before everything froze.

Fantastically loose - and such wonderful deep pigments on the blooms!! Lilacs are blooming profusely in my neck of the woods.

Very beautiful lilacs. Great loose image and colors.

My gosh, Lin, this is really great. Diahn and I were talking yesterday and your work came up -- how much we enjoy it and how you are a prime example of the old adage about practice making perfect. I think you should dig back into your archives and see if you have an old lilac sketch to compare this one to...
And the freeze hit us hard, too. Just terrible!

I think your fast and loose work creates magnificent lilacs! (This is a situation in which being "fast" and "loose" is a good thing. Hehe :)

Hope you’ll have a good night sleep, and be able to tackle tomorrow’s load and to give us another work of art to enjoy.

Wonderful! These do look so lovely and loose and yet capture the delicacy of the blooms. The combination of mild winter and then a spell of snow and cold has confused some of our flowers too. I think the azalea was ready to burst open and now it's in shock!

It might be your faster working or your conscious attempt towards looseness Lin, but it is definitely there, without compromising interesting detail...love it.

These are beautiful, Lin. You did a wonderful job of capturing their essence. Lilacs are my favorite, and like so many the weather this year has deprived us of having any to enjoy. Your drawing makes a lovely substitute.

Nice shading and variety of color in the leaves and flowers. They look so fluffy and bright.
