Pot o' Greens

Pot o' Greens

Yesterday was a quiet, restful day, much needed after so much recent activity and heavy demands. The sun was shining and temperatures reached over 80F ... more like the beginning of summer than spring.

Leaves on the trees are coming on strong now, and flowers are popping out everywhere! The bluebird eggs have hatched in the bluebird house and when I sit on the portch, I watch Mom and Dad busily feeding their new brood. I ususally see two to four broods hatch each year from that single wooden box ... but I haven't seen the first humming bird.

I am still fascinated with terra cotta flowerpots ... I just love the combination of human-made against the softness of natural materials. I sketched this from a reference photo. I tried to work outdoors yesterday -- but the wind kept taking my art materials across the property and drying my paints quicker than I could wet them! So I enjoyed the bird song and the scent of new flowers and gave myself into a real rest!

Really lovely Lin! I like the contrast in the stems and the foliage. Love the colours you've used!

This is a very nice sketch. I like terra cotta too. I don't know what it is about them.

Another really nice one. My favorite though is the pot on the left -- the curve, and the look of the true roundness of the pot and especially the highlight on the top --perfect!

The simply dotted blue flowers are perfect against the earth tones and shapes. I love this one!

What a wonderful restful piece--you're a master of terracotta. I really enjoyed reading about the birds and especially that you're getting some rest! Yay!

I love this Lin, it is truly beautiful..the color of you pots, the greens and that wonderful "brush sjlop" of color underneath your pots, I can almost see your loaded brush there...that is just perfect.

Lovely sketch! We are in Nashville headed for East Tennessee tomorrow...it is soooo beautiful here. I really wish we had stayed! But that's sort of a "what if".

The combination of terra cotta and green is really lovely. Nice texture on the pots too.

I love terra cotta pots too and you've done them proud! Wonderful roundness and the variety of green vegetation is just perfect! It's hot (again) here too and is even starting to smell more like summer than spring - that lovely first growth season was much too short.

Just been looking through your blog. You have your own style and I love the loose, colorful look of it! It is spring here, too. Love this time of year. Best to you--
Always, Rita

This sketch certainly shows you were feeling centered! You must be that petite white pot in the middle ;D.I love the way that white one is defined by the darker, flanking pots. I'm up to my elbows in black plastic flats, trying to get a truckload of white annuals in between the perennials so they'll be blooming for the June 2 wedding!
