Wisteria

Wisteria
Originally uploaded by linfrye.
Each spring our southern trees are festooned with wisteria vines, turning the roadsides into cascading perfumes of purple.

As the wisteria began its show this spring, however, we were hit with almost a week's worth of freezing weather, after several weeks of exceptionally warm temperatures than propelled blossoms into an early flowering. The frost killed so much of the wisteria's blooms, that I used a photo reference to remember this typical spring view.

I've never seen W. in bloom but your painting is so lovely I can only imagine it is very real to life. Love the shadings, as usual! Great job.

Very "spring," so fresh and new. Wonderful lacy feel and you did a great job with different values on both the foliage and the blooms. So pretty!!

I hope you are happy with this, cara--it is a lovely balance between loose and precise. And the colors! I wish I could make a pendant out of this!

Very nice variety in the values and colors. I've tried drawing and painting wisteria and it has always stumped me. Beautiful work on one of my favorite flowers.

Wisteria is such a wonderful flower and it's so difficult to paint, but I think you mastered it :).
