EDM 117 - Something Round, Marbles

I fell in love with Jana's painting of marbles for this challenge(http://janabouc.wordpress.com/) and wanted to give these orbs a try. With small grandchildren visiting frequently, though, we can't keep such things around for fear of them being swallowed, so I resorted to a reference photo for this sketch. Getting a shine and reflection was so much more difficult than it seemed! As well as getting a close circle!!

A fun challenge -- heightened by Jana's raising of the bar!

Lin,

These are abolutely gorgeous!! You really got the transparency and reflections. Love the colored shadows! I bookmarked a photo of marbles months ago on Wet Canvas - and still don't feel up to the challenge. I'm impressed!!!

Lin, thanks so much for your nice words about my marbles. You've done a great job getting the shine, the reflection and the transparency in these. I agree that it is a challenging subject but you nailed it! I was reminded of that fear of kids choking on small round things when my cats were playing with the marbles but they just chased them around until they all disappeared under furniture and appliances.

These are rather wonderful, they look round and shiny and I think you've made something really quite special out of them.

Lin - I'm with Shirley, I'd love to try them but don't feel up to it. Yours are wonderful and you've made it a great watercolour subject.

You really took on a challenge with the marbles. I agree -- glass and roundness -- what difficulties you overcame! Great job.
And great detail.

Jan and uou are taking on a real challenging subject...these marbles and you both do great!!
These marbles ar so light and their transparency is simply lovely, the colors so rich...as a kid, the colors always fascninate me and I remember always going for the reds and dark blues and greens, somehow those marbles also felt heavier to me, giving me an advantage in the game...
