Elodie Farm Barn

Elodie Farm Barn
Originally uploaded by linfrye
There are a number of outbuildings and barns at Elodie Farms (www.elodiefarms.com) and this old barn sits off the main gathering area. A number of weeks back when C and I visited the farm, Dave, the owner, showed us this building and I fell in love with its rustic, aging exterior. I snapped a few photos when the shadows were particularly pretty and finally spent a couple of days painting it.

I'm not sure if I'm done with it -- seeing it on the screen makes me think that the foliage needs some darkening, and yet when I look at the original, there is a greater variation (including darks) in the foliage -- so I've put the painting away a while to see what I think when I return to it.

For now, it's back to work after almost 2 weeks -- mercy, I did enjoy being away from all the 'have-to's!' LOL

Perfect! I first thought it was a photo, because the shadows are so realistic! Well done!

My favorite paintings used to be old buildings and covered bridges. This one takes me back.... I love the shadows on the barn itself and the old rusted roof. The trees lend such a quiet aspect. Beautifully done.

Gorgeous! Those shadows are just awesome and the building does indeed look aged. Love it!

Beautiful, Lin! The tranquility of the setting is very inviting. Wish I was there to go for a long walk with you!
Personally, I love the colours and values as they are. Don't forget that computer screen colours might distort the real thing because they can't always recognize every colour nuance. The painting probably is better in life than on the screen.

This series of 4 paintings are really amazingly beautiful! I see so much confidence in your handling of the watercolors.

It is good to leave a painting for a while and look at it later and then on the paper, not on the screen. I like this as is and it is a beautiful old rustic spot...perfect for painting AND hiding from the world!
Nice work.
