White wildflower field and fence

Daily Practice

I found a photo I thought I'd give a quick practice sketch. It was mostly green with spots of brown fencing -- just the kind of scene I find in NC .... and a definite challenge!

I tried to give the scene a 'spring/summer' green look -- to keep it loose and sketch it in under an hour to try to stop fiddling so much with my attempts.

There are things about this I like and things I feel it lacks ...

* I like the soft feel and the contrast of the brown posts

* I'm not at all sure about the foreground

* And I"m not sure there is ENOUGH contrasts ...

* And I'm hazy about the color temperatures working here ...

All in all, though, -- a really good exercise in a challenging color.

I think yo accomplished what you set out to do; it's lovely and soft and not fiddley at all!

I SO love the way you are able to combine looseness in general with one or two detailed elements. This is a wonderful example. The defined fence and the looseness of the trees and shrubs. I think the colors reflect spring beautifully -- still a bit of yellow among the greens. I cold walk right up that path into those woods!
