View Through the Arch, Italy

This painting is based on one of the beautiful photos sent to me by my friend, Jona (http://jona-sunnydays.blogspot.com/) ..... during her recent trip to Italy.

I LOVE arches of all kinds -- there's an entire book of symbolism connected with this structure. Passing through an arch is the symbolic act of rebirth, of leaving the old behind and entering the new. They often mark access into holy places. Arches have also been seen as a link to heaven, sanctuary and a secret place. To me, there is something of 'connectivity' within an arch, the bridging of one thing to another. Whatever they mean, though, I really love them! And this scene!

It'll be a busy day today as we prepare for our state-wide conference tomorrow. There won't be much painting time, but I hope to get in a sketch or two.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

This is a favourite, Lin. Beautiful perspective and lovely watercolour washes. The cat is a charming touch.

Lin -- I love the shadows in the foreground and that spot of light in the middle. It lets me know I'm standing in a cool secluded place looking out -- perfect!

Outstanding, Lin!!! I have to put my vote in that this is my favourite one of all you have done so far. (Except the one with the Bougainvillia;))

Gorgeous!!!

Wow, this draws the viewer in so powerfully! I know you are going to be in heaven when you go to Italy this spring ( you ARE going this spring, aren't you?) and can sketch this kind of scene en plein air.

Wonderful motive, beautifully painted. Are you sure the photo is from me? Don't recognise it really.
Nice info and point of view about arches.
