Scheggino Tower

Scheggino Tower

My first day back at work was, all things considered, very pleasant and truly, not too overwhelming. I have my assistant and gardeners to thank for keeping things moving along -- so a public THANK YOU to them! It sure made returning far less difficult that it might have been!

To change sketching topics a bit (though you know I will return to flowers!! LOL) ... This is one of the church towers at Scheggino ... sketched at La Romita, but painted this weekend. I have quite a few unfinished sketches that I'll be working on this week .. and this was one of them.

I wanted to attempt a building to see if I could render it a bit softer than my ususal approaches ....The 'real life' sketch is a bit darker and the shadows show up better than they do in this scan.

The weather here in NC seems to match the weather we had while in Tuscany - hot, humid, sunny. We were so fortunate to only have a few hours of gentle rain while we were there ....

I am already missing the rhythm of those days, though. The incredible meals prepared at La Romita, the touring of fascinating towns, the exercise of walking .... How is it that two incredible weeks can seem like a dream in such a short time?

You were in Tuscany...wonderful Lin!! A lovely sketch, with that ray of sunshine hitting the tower! Hope work is filled with "sunshine" too...I mean, after Tuscany...

Ah yes, the days in the sun are so soon a memory but you have wonderful memories and terrific photos to paint from -- hopefully it will hold you all year long!

The tower looks great!! Nice job on all the brickwork and that climbing vine. Your memories of Italy will keep popping up in wonderful paintings. I hope you share them all with us. I'm glad you had great weather...it makes it all so much nicer.

Dear Lin,
so wonderful to read about your whole trip. With writing about it "step by step" you are bringing it closer to us and it's kinda like "experiencing" the atmosphere of your beautiful adventures around Italy. Thank you.
I'm so very glad your whole holiday was so rich in every aspect of it.
I know day-life is so fast that pushes the memories of even such an amazing holidays in the background, but I'm sure you'll carry the feeling of that specific smells, lights, colors and places of this country in your heart for ever.
