Travel Journal - Oxford Barn

Travel Journal - We enjoyed our visit over the holidays to Durham and surrounds. Of course, I had to visit some of the barns I love. I've sketched this one many times, but each year, it leans more and more toward the ground, and grow more decrepit ... I feel bad about that ....but glad to have seen it in better shape over the years ...

Journal - Grapes

Journal - On the last remaining day of our stay at the SC winery, I wanted to thank the folks who were so kind to me in helping me get some relief for my threatening cold. So I did this quick 'grape' painting for them ... They loved it!

Karlyn Holman

I learned of the loss of a dear friend today – Karlyn Holman. I met Karlyn years ago at an Art of the Carolinas event hosted by Jerrysartarama. I was passing by her room and noticed some of the most beautiful watercolors I had ever seen. I stopped by when her class was over, and told her how much I admired her work and how sorry I was to have missed her class. She told me about several of her books, and I left with one of them with Karlyn trusting me to send her the money for the book (which I did). The following years, I took more of her classes, bought more of her books, DVDs, followed her to Umbria, France and Tuscany, took more of her classes, on-line and off, and always thanked her for the incredible inspiration she was not only for my artwork, but also for the way she taught. I went on to emulate her in my own teaching. If I have achieved anything in my artwork – I owe it to Karlyn. I am heartbroken to lose this incredible woman – always generous, kind, willing to help, talented, creative, innovative, always smiling and always with the greatest sense of humor. My deepest condolences to her family and other friends and folks she inspired. We were so fortunate to have had Karlyn in our lives.

Journal - Vereen Memorial Gardens

Journal - During our 'test' trip for our new to us RV, we took a ride to explore Vereen Memorial Gardens in Little River, SC. We had visited this beautiful garden a couple of years ago during a visit to Southport ... and we were excited to walk again on that marvelous marsh walk. We placed another oyster shell on the 'Wish Tree' and loved seeing the marsh in all its fall splendor.

Journal - Wishing Well Campground, Sunset Beach, NC

Journal - This past week we took our new motorhome on a 'trial' run in order to test all systems. We went to Sunset Beach for a few days, living in the RV and testing heat, cool, washer/dryer, arrangement of appliances and all. Everything worked well - as was promised ... and we are grateful for a bit of additional space to travel in. We stayed at Wishing Well Campground - a small campground a few miles from the beach ... wonderful hosts and fellow campers.

Journal - Shenandoah Valley Campground

Journal - Since we purchased a new-to-us RV, we've been busy cleaning and stocking and readying our former motorhome for sale - so artwork has taken a backseat as has posting.

Here's a sketch I did during our Hurricane evacuation as we waited out the storm at the Shenandoah Valley Camground.
