Journal...had a marvelous visit khato the Railroad Museum in Strasburg, VA...dozens and dozens of train engines, cars, ephemera.  I loved the colors and shape of this old one.

Journal - Riehl's Amish Farm - Funny thing about sketching while traveling with a non-sketching partner, the sketches tend to be quick pencil sketches, sometimes with a bit of local color added if time and patience permit, and often, a bit more color and shadows added later. And even back at the RV, there are other things to be done, so 'studio-type' painting does not happen. The sketches tend to be spontaneous and truly a "sketch." The goal, for me is to capture a moment in time, quickly, being at a particular place, however unfinished the image might be.

For this trip, I am using a 70# sketch paper sprial notebook, but using watercolor paer for my sketches -( cut to fit into the journal) - and stapled in. I've been adding more writing to the pages, receipes, brochures - so as to truly build a travel journal.

It's been like that for me during this trip. I often have no more than 10 to 15 minutes to sketch a view, then it's off to walk, listen to a tour, taste something fun, etc. This sketch was done on site with color added later -- I had no more than 10 minutes to work on it as our tour bus (of different Amish farms) was leaving ...

The tour, a gift from the Country Acres Campground, was wonderful. The driver was knowledgeable about the Amish and explained as we drove around the farms of Lancaster, PA, the lifeways of the Amish, their believes, schooling, farming practices, ceremonies, etc. A true delight.

Journal - Ashton, VA - Americamp RV Park - View from my Motorhome Window. Rain all day yesterday. C spent the day repairing the signals that had stopped working mid-way to VA. Thankfully - fixed - and we got in a nice walk after the rain finally stopped. Good way to spend a rainy day ....Love the RV Camp! Great place!
