Lychnis and Onion

I went outdoors early this morning to find something to sketch. My lychnis were in full bloom! So I pulled out a step ladder (I MUST get a suitable sketch seat) and sat down to sketch. After only 10 minutes -- the intense sun and heat had me in a sweat!! I collected a blossom and leaf and went indoors to cool off and get my eyes to adjust!

I'm also determined to learn more about shading and color blending. I sketched this onion and added watercolor as I sat after lunch in the shade of the porch.

After a difficult workweek, today was a true relaxing gift!

  4. great, great onion! I think if the shadow had been a shade of purple or blue (complimentary of the brown/orange of the onion) it would have popped perfectly!! I hope you don't mind my saying so because it is lovely as it is...

Great job with the onion. I LOVE the "hot spots" on the side that really make it pop!
    Cheers!

The bulb - onion? is superb! The shading on it is fabuloso! I had my sketchbook out at a cafe today and was embarrased when the waiter wanted to look at it. I have to get back into the saddle!

  16. I'm late getting on this bandwagon of admiration but had to say,"I love your onion" even if it's become a well worn phrase.
