Sara P. Duke Gardens

Yesterday was an 'Early Taste of Summer' spring day, and Sue (www.flickr.com/photos/loveitaly) and I spent a few hours at the Sarch P. Duke Gardens! OH MY GOSH!! I could have stayed there for days!! EVERYWHERE we looked was a view worthy of painting. We never got past the first garden we came to: The White Garden.

The birds serenaded us with song, the flowers in bloom - hyacinths, tulips, white daffodils, grape hyacinth, etc. wafted sweet scents as we sat on a bench to sketch. We were in the amphitheatre area where we also enjoyed the childrens dance and song performance, and visitors to the gardens just kept coming and coming!

GLORIOUS day!

Oh, I want to join you and Sue sometime!! After my daughter's wedding on June 2, I'd love to sketch with you all! This is a beautiful sketch of a beautiful garden, cara.

So pretty! Wonderful values in the greens (I especially like the darker green near the ground) the tree trunk near the pagoda is very nicely done. Great job on the cobbled walkway - a very nicely done spring landscape!!

How stunning and what a wonderful day it sounds like you had! This painting reflects in images your description of it in words, too! Jules.

Nicely done, Lin. Your "looseness" is coming, and the darks add vitality. And we can certainly see your style emerging. Good job.

What a beautiful garden, Lin. I like the colours, and the way you've done the pagoda and pot. It sounds like you had a perfect day out. There is nothing to beat sitting in a beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing.

What a lovely and detailed but still loose painting -- just perfect!
So glad you had a lovely day to get out with your fellow painter and enjoy the flowers, birds, and children.
Hugs,
Lorraine

Nice work! I especially like the beach scene - you really evoked the sand and surf.
