Journal - House by Keziah Park

Journal - A fabulous day in Southport - sunny and warm - even with the heavy pollen. Sat in Keziah Park (Indian Trail Tree) with Maria Liberto Bessette And Chris Bergstrom Kibler and sketched a house outside the park.

Journal - Reynolds Square

Journal - Another sketch from Shari Blaukopf's workshop in Savannah. This is from Reynolds Square and our object was to sketch people and shadows. We started the lesson and sketch in sunlight, but soon after, clouds covered the sun and so the shadows were gone -- I made up some of the shadows I didn't remember.

Journal - Fountain at Columbia Square - Savannah GA

Journal - Savannah, GA - Workshop with Shari Blaukopf. What a marvelous 3 days with Shari -- wonderful instructor and FABULOUS place to sketch. I haven't finished all the sketches I started - but here is one that I completed there. We sketched the fountain at Columbia Square. The lesson was a limited palette using 3 primaries ... I used Permanent rose, quin. gold and Prussian blue. This was my 2nd attempt as my first turned into mud! LOL Shari's demo did NOT include ink -- but I love line so I added ink to my final sketch.

Journal - Southport House

Journal - Ah - almost spring! Gwen Renee and I took advantage of the sunshine and warmer afternoon to sketch one of the many charming houses in Southport. Got most of this painted before the gnats sent us scurrying for cover. Finished shadows at home - no gnats!

Journal - Asiatic Lilies

Journal - I definitely have spring fever, though the temperatures bounce between those in the 40s and those in the 70s! Still, a trip to Lowes Hardware found me drooling over these orange double Asiatic lilies. Had to take them home to paint and plant.

Journal - New Hanover County Arboretum

Journal - New Hanover Arboretum

Despite the cool weather and overcast sky, a few friends and I went to the New Hanover Arboretum to sketch the plants in bloom. We stood in the shelter of one of the buildings to escape the wind, did our sketches, added local color, then went home to warm up. I added a final layer of watercolor at home. The small colorful building is the tiny house in the Children's Garden.

Journal - Saucer Magnolia

Journal - Inspired by Saucer Magnolia blossoms ...I've seen these along the roadside and Maria and I found a couple just beginning to bloom ... Though the trees have broken bud, we will face a cold week ahead - I hope the newly emerging plants are spared.
