Snow by the Water

Snow by the Water

After sitting in meetings all day and driving two hours home, I managed to get in a bit of sketching. I'm not crazy about these trees -- to me, they're stiff, indicating I need much more practice with my rigger.

But it felt so GOOD to finally be HOME, at least for a short weekend!

I love the sense of depth, the water itself and how it appears in the background, and I like the sky. I also like the trees but can see what you mean. I found the rigger difficult to use but loved the effect when it worked! Bill also taught me to use a fine black waterproof pen for the tiny branches (I was not that patient). I have noticed though, while riding in the car in the country this time of year, that trees are SO varied in shape and size that you can get away with just about anything!
Hugs,
Lorraine

I don't think there is much wrong with this painting, Lin. Your snow is very good and I love your foreground grasses and I would not have thought you had a problem with your trees. I find these twiggy trees a problem - how much detail to add, how much to leave out.
Stacy of stopanddrawtheroses.blogspot.com had a wonderful tip on how to use a rigger brush for small branches a couple of posts back. I tried it and it worked wonderfully for me.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment on my blog - all your lovely comments on my blog xo

Gosh, this is just so beautiful. Peaceful and the trees are the last thing i looked at. Not to worry, they are fine.
