End of the Fall

End of the Fall

Home! Though it is always an extreme joy to be with my mom and sisters, like Dorothy says in "The Wizard of Oz" -- there really isn't any place like home.

Returning after a few days, it amazes me to find so many of our tree leaves on the ground ... Oh, here and there some of our Bradford pears wear tutus of yellow, gold, orange and scarlet with little 'tufts' of leaves covering their upper branches. But more than anything, the ground is simply covered with fading gold, orange and umber leaves ....

Our visit couldn't have been more wonderful - though we got home mighty tired yesterday. The incredible food - my sister is a phenomenal cook! The pastries (family tradition), walks (we had walked over 10 miles!!! A first for us), marathon games of Bookworm (like scrabble), and all the laughter, seeing Mom thrive under my sisters care, memories old and the making of memories new ... all what the holidays are about, I believe.

No 'Black Friday' shopping for us -- though all the online gifts purchased for the grands arrived yesterday -- so my holiday shopping has begun.

Today it's laundry catch up, a bit of quiet time at the art table, and simply 'nesting' for the last of the Thanksgiving break.

Thank you all for your most generous and kind comments. Thanksgiving wouldn't be as rich, as heartfelt, or as incredible without you ---- thank you most of all for your kindness, generosity, and of all - friendship.

Bless each of you ....

Ooh, this painting looks so lush and deep yet brilliant. You've gotten just the right mix of light and dark and it glows!

We have a carpet of leaves outside but they are still red, yellow, orange and green.

On a walk early in the week when it was much warmer (!) we found some very dark brown and almost purple pear leaves -- incredible colors and shades.

Glad you are home safe and with such wonderful memories.
Hugs,
Lorraine

Wonderful colors and negative painting of the leaves!!! It sounds like you had a marvelous time on Long Island enjoying your family. Glad to hear your mom is thriving being with your sister.

Family is so important at this time of year. I enjoyed my time in Maine with my sister and her husband and kids. We ate too much, and laughed even more. We got back on the 5 o'clock ferry last night. It is good to be home.
