Sketchbook Journal - Seashells with Beach

It took me quite a while to finished this 'tip in' ... At first, I painted a regular watercolor 'beach view' - but when I placed it on the page -- that full watercolor - all blues and browns - contrasted so much with this line-ish sketch and open space, that it took me a while to find a style that fit in with the other elements of the page without taking away from the main subject - seashells.  I used an Elegant Writer pen (with soluble ink) and added just dashes of color to coordinate with the seashells.  I think it works ...

I'm truly not sure if this is 'white space' (I think so) -- or border - or text box .... in any case, my word for today was 'Can" -  When I thought about and looked up more 'meanings,' I was astonished to find SOOO many different meanings that I knew I wanted to include more text than image --  After reading through so many different ideas of this word,  I could readily understand why English is such a difficult language to learn!!

Sketchbook Journal -- I redid my journal page of Orange - I wanted to compare my spontaneous Orange page (done on 60# not watercolor paper) to the one I did with more planning in my Kilimanjaro 140# CP travel journal.

I'm not sure which I like better ... the quick one in my writing journal feels more spontaneous to me, but the one in my sketchbook journal feels more polished (wish I had enlarged the title though) ... do you have a preference?

Journal - I'm using a 70# 7" x 10" Reflexions journal for my morning pages -- I've decided to try to watercolor (as best I can with quick sketches on this thin paper) - to add to my writing. My word this morning was "Orange" ... and so I wrote about that and decided to add some sketches to these pages ... I may use that word in my watercolor journal - but for now, these non-precious pages, filled with thoughts, ephemera, ink stains and corrections, feels so much more relaxed and playful ... Sketchbook Journal - January 1, 2021

Sketchbook Journal - I've decided to focus a bit more time on my sketchbook journaling - trying to create better looking pages - more 'design' than just random placement of objects (my goal anyway!). Also, since I've been in such a sketching and writing doldrum these covid days, I've decided to try a 'word generator' - choose a word from those than randomly appear, and then using that word to generate more writing and sketching.

This is the first page for January 1 2021 - more about the day, than a particular word ...
