Roadside Flowers

Roadside Flowers

Ahhh Mondays, back to work. It's the last week of classes and final exams and final projects -- a time of last-minute frenzy ... 'tis the season! LOL

I suppose we each paint, draw, photograph those things that fascinate us or that we love ... and roadsides (some call them wasteplaces) are no exception. There is something so symbolic about this last bit of virtually untamed land that seems to draw my eyes and my heart. I love the juxtaposition of soft grasses and determined flowers against the hard, stable rocks, and the way 'weeds' find a way to grow in soil that cannot sustain more 'fussy' plants. I like the way the grasses survive the cold, wind and oftentimes traffic fumes, and how the rocks or small boulders seem to hold everything "rock"-steady.

In these crazy times, roadsides are metaphors to me .. giving us by example their steadfastness (rocks) while remaining hopeful, yet acting flexible (flowers) through the buffeting storms and changing times.

Yep, I do love the roadsides and wasteplaces ..

Good Morning Lin... Love the roadside flower painting... I think little clumps of wildflowers that are randomly placed around the roads, near fence post, rocks and fields of our beautiful countryare wonderful and I take pictures of them often... it is like the hidden beauty... Have a great Monday

Such a thought provoking post Lin. I too have thought such things but could not put into words so eloquently as you have done. Your sketch makes a great exclamation point to your thoughts.

What a lovely painting and for me, who failed at "rocks" especially lovely!! Your morning musings are so true and so poetic -- perfect for a book, along with the painting.
You are a marvel!

Lin - It is always a treat when you paint some little scene from the roadside!!! They are little pockets of beauty that are so often missed in our daily rush through life. This is lovely!!!

I love this, Lin, and I agree with you that there is something very comforting about these little flowers and grasses that manage to grow despite the odds. I love the colours of those little flowers. And one of your rocks is heart-shaped!
