I agree whole-heartedly! Value is so hard to learn once you add color into the mix. Terri's right -- the doing is the thing! One trick I've learned when drawing from a photo -- I keep a small square of cardstock with a hole punched in the middle. When you put the hole over the part of the photo in question, the area is isolated from the rest and you can really see how light or dark it really is. Did that make a bit of sense? :-D
