I sketched this from a photo reference yesterday. I had to do it twice -- the first time I really liked the way the flowers and ridge turned out, but I wrecked the water.
This time, I paintd the water first and am quite pleased with THAT, but not as crazy about the vegetation. I used less pencil sketching this second attempt and got a bit 'lost' without more reference points.
I worked thru some of my mistakes and am fairly pleased with the results. I'm still working on the water challenge for Kate's alumni group...

This is one of the best watercolor paintings of moving water I've ever seen. It looks so realistic and yet impressionistic at the same time. You've captured teh reflection of the sky and the water and the rocks or whatever is in the stream equally well. It's really amazing. The grass and flowers are nicely done too. As soon as the picture loaded I was shaking my head with a amazement at how perfect the water looked and how inviting the picture is!
Your water is excellent here, Lin! I would have liked to have seen the other painting to see what you liked so well with the flowers but that is posters progative! Great Job!
Lin, Jana is right in all respects!!! WOWEE!! This is a frame it and hang it painting!
Nice sense of receding space, Lin! "Beam" me there, and we'll sketch and picnic! :-)
This is lovely Lin. Water is tricky to do and you are doing so well. Love the bank vegetation too.
Like this one Lin, and I love your vase of flowers too,but your water is just lovely.
Wish I was there by it.
