After painting so many of Bonny's images, I've decided to take another go at my own photos of Sicily.
I LOVE this image -- well the photo ..... it's a fountain in the rock -- the name on the gates of the farmstead we so enjoyed in Caltagirone -- Villa Tasca.
I think this painting came out okay -- but I missed my goal of 'looser' -- so I'll continue giving it a try ...
I do have to admit though, I've thorough enjoying my armchair visits to Italy!

I don't think you totall missed your goal of looser -- the greenery in the background and the purple flowers in the foreground -- loose - very nice. And I think they make a
nice contrast with the wonderful detail you have in the building. Bravo!

Loose or not, it is a beautiful scene. Love that bit of water.
Lin; I don't think you missed your loose practise. The flowers are just that. The composition is very interesting, too. You have a good eye for taking photos that will work as a painting or drawing.
Can't wait to see more of 'your' part of Italy!
Lin, I agree with the others. . . this is loose and light and airy - if you went any looser, it might become abstract.
Lin, you're really making me want to travel and see Itally, something I'd given up on ever doing. This looks so intriguing and pretty. I'm wondering what you felt was not loose enough -- was it just your approach felt to tight rather than the finished painting? I have a tip from what I taught this week in my class that might be of help to you, if you're interested.
I love the style of this one. I think its beautiful. Its always a bit disappointing when the work doesn't come out exactly the way you envisioned it, but that doesn't mean that the way it did come out is bad or wrong. It might not be as loose as you imagined, but it is still very nice. And it certainly doesn't look overworked.
