The vignette I sketched last night was from a recent trip my colleagues and I made to a nearby garden center as we sought inspiration for decorating the Arboretum for fall. Incredible displays of pumpkins, gourds, mums and all varieties of fall fare made us dizzy with delight! I could have stayed at the Center and sketched all week!
The cooler weather is turning more and more trees into colorful displays .. I LOVE fall -- from the harvest to the colors to the bit of melancholy that it seems to bring. It's a season, to me, that encourages us to tie up loose ends, finish tasks and begin to prepare for the busy holidays ahead and the hunkering down, restive time of winter. But before that, we are treated to a vivid display of nature's bounty and majesty! I read a quote this morning that I'll paraphrase: "Fall is a second spring ... each colored leaf.. a wildflower." I couldn't agree more.

Oh what a bountiful colorful sketch -- I love the softness of the flowers and all the fall colors. I too love fall. No color here yet and no rain. Forest fires at our beautiful Natural Bridge state park are so bad we can smell them here, 80 miles away. Color but the wrong kind! I also love that quote and your narrative. Love your blog and enjoy it so much every day.
Hugs,
Lorraine
Fall has so many things to offer especially for an artist... The colors are bold with yet a softness to so many things.. You have captured a beautiful picture of a touch of fall....
Thank you for sharing...

Autumn is even here in Tucson...it was 58 degrees when I walked at 6am, had to put long pants and a jacket on :)
Perfect autumn still life, I think I need pumpkins Now!
I think I bought everything you have there yesterday at the farmstands I visited!! I'll have to put them together for a still life. This is beautiful...fab autumn colors!!
This is near to perfect to me... my eyes keep going around... from the front pumpkin to the right flower, then to the left flower and back and never get bored. Good composition I think. Great combination of colors - making atmosphere. And I love the way you are painting little blossoms.
I couldn't agree more with you about the autumn. I guess all us libras just LOVE it, its serenity and reachness in colors. :)
sooo lovely! Do you think artists, in general love autumn the very best?!
